Hello World!
I just wanted to let everyone know that Kalipso is now officially enrolled in his first year or mechanic school!  This amazing event is thanks to each and every one of you who helped make this project work.  I am humbled and amazed that in less than one month, we could raise enough money to change someone’s whole life.   Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Wow everyone!  We are really close to our goal!  Praise the Lord- and thanks to everyone in this community for supporting this project so enthusiastically!

In an effort towards full disclosure, I wanted to let everyone know that if we do exceed our goal, and that Kalipso’s education and needs are provided for, any extra money will go directly to benefit the orphanage being built by Pastor Jehu Metullis.

Here is more information about that project-  NDI is partnering with Pastor Jehu Metellus to build a chilren’s home for boys and girls who are abandoned to live on the streets in and around Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Currently, he cares for 23 boys, but he would like to expand this to 200 boys and girls. The cost of this building is $400,000 or $74 per square foot. Here’s the great news: the first $100,000 has been raised and sent. Of the remaining balance, only $150,000 needs to be raised because every dollar given will be matched!  $150,000 at 25 dollars a cake is 6,000 cakes!  Let’s get busy!

To get more information and to watch a special video, you can visit the New Directions Website- http://www.newdirections.org/Jehu.asp

so… some things i have learned on this culinary journey.  One thing in particular is important- baking soda is NOT the same thing as baking powder.  My brother (the chef) tells me that although both leavening agents, the chemical properties make a BIG difference in the recipes you use.  In other words, if your recipe calls for baking powder and you accidentally put baking soda in the batter instead you get a chocolate pound cake VOLCANO in your oven.  Including chocolate molten lava.  Chocolate molten SMOKY lava.  So just an update world, soda does not equal powder.  Even though soda looks like powder.  not the same.  *sigh*

But YOU GUYS are rock stars!  The cake orders are still pouring in!  That makes me a busy girl, and Kalipso one step closer to his dream.  And it reminds me that we live in a town full of really, really, really good people. ❤

Lemonade cupcakes @ a Halloween Party!  Don’t they look good?  don’t you want some? 😉

Thanks Guys! I am humbled by the WONDERFUL response!  I baked 6 cakes tonight… and more to come!  I think after 24 hours, we have the FIRST YEAR of tuition paid!  Let’s shoot for year #2!!!

God Bless you all!

iyf015Here is the info… I am trying to raise $400 to pay for mechanic school for my friend Kalipso.  Kalipso was a street orphan in the country of Haiti when my father found him 10+ years ago.  Right now he has no job, no income, and no food.  With training at this school he could find a job and provide for himself.

To raise the money, I am collecting donations.  For any donation of $25 or more, I will gladly make you a cake!  You pick the flavor, and when you want it, and i will got to work!

It would only take 16 cakes to pay for a whole year of school for Kalipso!

Will you join me in this effort?  Contact me (on the “Contact Me” form above or @ CakesforKalipso@hotmail.com) to get more details on how to donate or how to order a cake!

*DISCLAIMER- Being the sister of a chef has no actual bearing on my cooking ability.  None at all.  All it probably means is that my Thanksgiving dinners are especially yummy. 🙂

Q: I don’t have $25.  Can I give less?
A: Um… let me think about it… YES!

A: Ask for it!  I have lots of recipes (and Allrecipes.com has even more!) I will gladly try anything!

Q: Do you take credit cards?
